Whether on foot over the old train route to Oberbozen, or via the Haselburg back to Bolzano, to the Vigiljoch to the place of power of the St. Vigilkirche, or over the Langfenn to the Tschaufen house, from Vöran to Knottenkino, to Obereggen or Reinswald for skiing or tobogganing, and then at the hut enjoy a hearty “Watter” fight, chestnuts or sausages “grill” (as the Swiss say). All these excursions are fun, informative, social, varied and above all, they take place during school time and enrich the class time.
Why some parents do not support or even reject this educational offer is not understood! Parents have a responsibility for their children to attend class in and out of school. School can not do that! What speaks against a few hours hiking in the snow or through the beautiful autumn and spring forests? Would it be presumptuous to learn “Watten” or “Briscola” during a walking break? Do we really need to invite a musician or even several as a school to frame the “event” musically so we can entice participants with it? Is it really just possible to place the dentist appointments exactly on these important social days?
It should be clear to all that each trip counts technically as a “normal” day of lessons and attendance is in principle obligatory. Trips act as a complement to everyday school life as they provide practical, lifelike extracurricular knowledge, they form and weld the classes and the whole school community. Key qualifications such as social intelligence and competence, as well as willingness to venture are practiced, students get to know teachers from another side and vice versa and ultimately excursions are also fun.
